Honouring Our Heroes

Yesterday, hundreds gathered on Parliament Hill in Ottawa to honour police and peace officers across Canada. The Canadian Police and Peace Officers’ Annual Memorial Service pays tribute to the men and women of law enforcement who are killed in the line of duty.

It’s also an opportunity to thank to those who work so hard to keep us safe.

Among these inspirational men and women are park wardens, who are responsible for law enforcement in our national parks. They also happen to be members of the Union of National Employees.

This year, nine wardens were chosen to represent their comrades in Ottawa.

“It’s really important to recognize the important work of our law enforcement community,” said National Executive Vice-President Eddie Kennedy.

Park wardens, Kennedy says, work hard every day to keep our national parks and historic sites safe for Canadian families. “So next time you visit a national park, make sure to thank a warden for their important public service,” he added.

The wardens who took part in yesterday’s celebration were Frédéric Deland, Local 10515; Dominique Audet, Local 60029; Jim Mamalis, Local 30115, Ben Alderman, Local 29266; Mike Ellsworth, Local 00392; Nicolas Cotter, Local 10269; Gregory Daigle, Local 60284; Sara Jaward, Local 00238; and Craig Burden Local 90265.
